• STORY: The rice fields of Arrocerías Antonio Thomas are located in the Albufera Natural Park. Each bag of rice bears the DO of the same name or that of Valencia. The company maintains a privileged relationship with the rice farmers. This enables them to have comprehensive control in order to guarantee the associated inimitable quality of the raw material.

• PRODUCTION: Only traditional rice varieties are sold under the Santo Tomás brand. Santo represents the high status of religion in earlier Spanish society and Tomás comes from the name of the founder, Antonio Tomás.  

• EXCLUSIVE MIX: The typical type of paella rice is called Bomba and comes in a traditional cloth bag. Due to its lower starch content, the rice remains firmer and grainier than other short-grain rice varieties after cooking. It offers a fine taste with an ideal consistency.

• RECOMMENDATION: Cascina Belvedere only uses Carnaroli rice for the risotto mixes. The finished mixtures only have to be supplemented with olive oil, water and/or wine according to the packaging instructions and the connoisseur feels transported to an Italian tavern.

The renowned rice producer Arrocerías Antonio Thomas is located in the most traditional rice region in Europe, more precisely in the region around Valencia. Rice got there about 6,000 years ago through the Moors, who brought it with them from China and India. In 1283, the Aragonese King Jaime I ordered that rice cultivation be limited to the Albufera Lagoon area, far from the city, to prevent malaria epidemics. In the course of time, however, the city grew so that the rice fields now reach up to the city limits again. Today the landscape is known for its outstanding rice cultivation and is also the birthplace of paella.
