White wine can be made from any grape, as the pulp of the grape contains little or no coloring. Extraction of the coloring matter from the skin of the grapes is avoided when extracting the berry juice for white wine. White wine is also the basis for many sparkling wines.

White wine is grown almost everywhere in the world. However, the grapes prefer a cooler climate. The best-known white wine grape varieties include Chardonnay , Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc .
