STORY: In its Portuguese homeland, the traditional port wine house Ferreira, founded in 1751, is the undisputed number one. Responsible for this are the more than 300 hectares of their own vineyards, which are among the cream of the cultivation area - above all the famous Quinta do Porto, acquired by Dona Antónia Ferreira.
-
VINIFICATION: After the selective harvest, the grapes are gently pressed. The wine ages in oak barrels for an average of 4 years.
-
AROMA: Delighted with a fresh and delicate aroma of ripe, red fruits, spices and a fine note of wood.
-
EVALUATION: Elegant on the palate, fine balance of ripe tannins and sweetness, pleasantly long finish
-
SERVING RECOMMENDATION: Goes well with caramel or coffee desserts and apple pie. Also with spicy and mold cheeses such as Roquefort, or simply chilled as an aperitif. Also wonderful as a summer cocktail with lemonade on ice!
In its Portuguese homeland, the traditional port wine house Ferreira, founded in 1751, is the undisputed number one. Responsible for this are the more than 300 hectares of their own vineyards, which are among the cream of the cultivation area - above all the famous Quinta do Porto, acquired by Dona Antónia Ferreira. In the hot, dry summers, the grapes get plenty of sun on the terraced slopes that slope steeply down to the Douro and thus develop the power, fullness and maturity that characterize the unique character of the port wine. Sogrape has managed to bring the wine-growing regions of Vinho Verde, Douro, Dão and Bairrada to a level that is now competitive across national borders. The house "pursues a consistent quality policy that respectfully preserves old traditions, cultivates local varieties and thus produces independent Portuguese plants", writes the specialist magazine Vinum in recognition of the great merits of Portugal's No. 1.
