STORY: Located in the heart of the Stellenbosch wine-growing district at the foot of the Simonsberg, the Warwick Estate was recreated on historical grounds in 1964 by Norma Ratcliffe and her husband Stan. At first she was smiled at, as it was considered very unlikely that a Canadian career changer would be able to establish herself in the male-dominated South African wine scene.
-
VINIFICATION: After the harvest, the grapes go to the press house, where the grapes are selected and gently ground. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures for a few months on the fine lees.
AROMA: Notes of figs, pear and melon on the nose
-
EVALUATION: On the palate, the wine creates a smooth finish.
SERVING RECOMMENDATION: goes well with Mediterranean dishes, poultry, fish and seafood.
Located in the heart of the Stellenbosch wine-growing district at the foot of the Simonsberg, the Warwick Estate was recreated on historic grounds in 1964 by Norma Ratcliffe and her husband Stan. At first she was smiled at, as it was considered very unlikely that a Canadian career changer would be able to establish herself in the male-dominated South African wine scene. But Norma showed an iron will. She asked the neighbors vintners holes in their bellies, read one book after the other, bought cellar equipment, repaired broken pumps, patched holes in barrels and bit by bit screwed on the quality screw. Norma, known as the "First Lady of the Cape", continuously led her winery to the top of the South African wine elite. In addition to the Spanish King Juan Carlos, her avowed fans also include America's former first lady, Michelle Obama, who was recently presented with the wine of the same name on a trip to South Africa.
In the meantime, the estate has secured a permanent place at the top of the "Top 100 Wineries of the Year" (Wine & Spirits Magazine).
