STORY: Artisan Rare Wines. Reduced to the essentials. Reduction is often the key to quality in viticulture. But sometimes limits that are too narrow can also be inhibiting and tie off creativity. Tertius Boshoff doesn't like restrictions, his gaze has to wander - outside the box and back to the essentials.
VINIFICATION: Grapes from vines planted in 1964 in the Bottelary Hills. Carefully hand-picked and gently pressed, the wine is fermented in small oak barrels with wild yeast and stored there for nine months Sur Lie. It then goes unfined and unfiltered into the bottle.
AROMA: Fine scent of delicate white flowers.
EVALUATION: Pleasantly round on the palate with floral aromas and notes of yellow fruits. Of captivating elegance.
SERVING RECOMMENDATION: Ideal with starters such as goat cheese crostini, but also with grilled tuna, Asian cuisine or white meat or fish.
Artisan Rare Wines. Reduced to the essentials. Reduction is often the key to quality in viticulture. But sometimes limits that are too narrow can also be inhibiting and tie off creativity. Tertius Boshoff doesn't like restrictions, his gaze has to wander - outside the box and back to the essentials. As he puts it: “In the beginning, the best wines were made by ordinary artisans who went into the forest and picked wild berries. Why do we think so complicated today?” Inspired by this originality, he launched his Artisan RARE Wines. The grapes for his Apprentice White Cinsault come from vines planted in 1964 in the Bottelary Hills. Some of South Africa's best Grenache wines come from the Piekernierskloof in the Swartland. A good omen for the Phantom Grenache, whose vines come from one of the oldest vineyards in the region. Only one barrique barrel was vinified from each of the two wines.
