STORY: In 2005, the brothers Dr. Tertius Boshoff and Kobie van der Westhuizen founded the Cape Winery Stellenrust in 1928 with the aim of making it a model company in every respect. The quality standards of the wines produced here have always been high. Not one iota deviated from this. What was new, however, was that the workers were given a special reward for their years of hard work.

FINISHING: Read in two 'tries'. Sorting out the botrytis-infested grapes. Self-clarification without enzymes. Then deduction in carefully selected French and Hungarian barriques. spontaneous fermentation. Expansion "sur lie" for 9 months. The number 54 above the front label means that the wine was made from grapes from 54-year-old bush vines.
AROMA: Striking, complex and structurally sophisticated. The bouquet mixes brioche, quince and pear with incredible minerality.

EVALUATION: On the palate then its self-confident character: a creamy density and fullness, silky in texture. The acid structure provides harmony and body tension and wonderfully complements the caramel, honey and panna cotta notes. The wood is perfectly balanced.
SERVING RECOMMENDATIONS: Duck confit, fish with creamy sauces, pies, foie gras
In 2005, the brothers Dr. Because most of them grew up on the property and still live there. So the 70 working-class families were the majority shareholders in 100 hectares of farmland, which they were allowed to cultivate, harvest and develop as their own plot. This is how one of the best and most successful "black empowerment projects" on the whole continent was initiated. The winery works with the greatest care when it comes to sustainability. This means: minimalist use of fertilizers, grape varieties that are adapted to the specific environment and vine training designed for optimal circulation. But that's not all: in addition to natural winemaking, the disposal of waste is also controlled and only recycled packaging material is used.
