  • STORY: Somek Estate Winery's vineyards are located in one of Israel's oldest wine-growing regions around the town of Zichron Ya'acov, in the Nadiv Valley at the foot of the Carmel Mountains, discovered and founded by Baron Edmond de Rothschild in 1882.

  • EXPANSION: The grapes for the Somek Carignan come from vines that are over 50 years old, the wine is aged for 2 years in French oak barrels (a third of which are new) and matures in the bottle for a further 2 years before it is sold.

  • EVALUATION: In the glass it presents itself in a dark purple violet, the nose reveals intense aromas of ripe dark plums and black cherries, along with seductive notes of cocoa and roasted coconut flakes. Powerful on the palate with wonderful juiciness, perfectly integrated acidity and delicate tannins, fascinatingly long and supple on the finish with a beautiful aftertaste.

  • SERVING RECOMMENDATIONS : The Somek Carignan shows the full range of aromas and strength that high-quality wines from Carignan have and, with its full structure and presence, is an excellent accompaniment to grilled steak or game as well as richly seasoned dishes. A real insider tip!

  • SERVING TEMPERATURE: 1 8-20 °C

Somek Estate Winery's vineyards are located in one of Israel's oldest wine-growing regions around the town of Zichron Ya'acov, in the Nadiv Valley at the foot of the Carmel Mountains, discovered and founded by Baron Edmond de Rothschild in 1882. Barak Dahan comes from a family of wine growers who have sold their grapes to the major wineries in the region for generations. In 2003 he and his wife Hila decided to develop 10 percent of their best vineyards themselves and to produce high-quality wines that reflect the region's terroir. They continue to sell the remaining 90 percent to the big wineries. Hila studied at the University of Adelaide in Australia and is a qualified oenologist. Together, Barak and Hila stand for the long tradition and experience in viticulture in their region and combine it with modern knowledge and technology in winemaking. The vineyards are planted with Chardonnay, Roussanne, Chenin Blanc, Viognier, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Grenache and Mourvédre.
