  • STORY: This exclusive composition of Cabernet Sauvignon and smaller parts Shiraz and Merlot is the culmination of the Rust en Vrede creations and one of the great red wines in the world. America's leading trade publication Wine Spectator has rated the house's sensational flagship as one of the top 100 wines in the world four times in a row.

  • AGING: Maceration of the grapes for 21 days. Pump over the pomace cap 4 times a day. Malolactic fermentation in oak barrels. The grape varieties are vinified separately. Aging for 18 months in French oak barrels and a further 12 months in bottle

  • AROMA: Deep dark crimson colour. Aromas of tobacco, cedar and spices dominate, accompanied by blueberry notes and creamy cheesecake.

  • RATING: On the palate it shows classic aromas of blackberry, plum and dark chocolate. The tannins are pleasant and lead to a long and powerful finish.

  • SERVING RECOMMENDATION: with grilled red meats, braised roasts and aged cheeses

This exclusive composition of Cabernet Sauvignon and smaller parts Shiraz and Merlot is the culmination of the Rust en Vrede creations and one of the great red wines in the world. America's leading trade publication Wine Spectator has rated the house's sensational flagship as one of the top 100 wines in the world four times in a row. And South Africa's most feared wine critic, John Platter, awards the fine wine with his coveted top rating of "5 stars" and describes it as "superlative!" But Jean Engelbrecht is particularly proud that his top wine was served in 1993 at the gala dinner on the occasion of the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony to Nelson Mandela and FWde Klerk in Oslo. Jean Engelbrecht recently took over Rust en Vrede Estate from his father Jannie. Like Jannie, Jean had a life before viticulture. While the father was a South African rugby idol before he acquired the more than 300-year-old winery in 1978, the son flew around the world as a jumbo pilot for South African Airways for years. However, the passion for wine is in both their blood. And so together they made Rust en Vrede what it is today: a winery acclaimed by wine critics from all over the world.
