The Klosterberg is the third “mountain location” in Kiedrich, alongside the Kiedrich Turmberg and Kiedrich Gräfenberg. Weingut Robert Weil, founded in 1875, is now managed by Wilhelm Weil in the fourth generation. The founder of the winery, Dr. Robert Weil bought the first vineyards in Kiedricher Berg in 1867. At that time still working as a professor of German at the Sorbonne in Paris, he had to leave France in the run-up to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71. He settled in Kiedrich and, in addition to his work as a journalist, expanded the winery with the best vineyard lots in the Kiedricher Berg. The clear philosophy of absolute quality viticulture, vision and courageous investments were the prerequisites for the winery to develop quickly and soon for its wines to be celebrated internationally. This is how the Spätlese and Auslese from the house of Dr. Robert Weil Delivered to many imperial and royal houses in Europe as the white counterpart to the great wines of Bordeaux. Today, 100% Riesling grows on the 90 hectares of vineyards. The consistent cultivation of the Riesling grape variety, a strictly quality-oriented and yield-reducing work in the vineyard, selective manual harvest and an extremely gentle wine aging in the cellar are the guarantors for the production of individual and great wines. Many observers of the international wine world see the Robert Weil winery with its "château character" as a global symbol of German Riesling culture.
