  • STORY: It is well known that the colonial era of the British Empire contributed to the popularity of gin. It is also a fact that the British officers used quinine as a malaria prophylaxis and thus paved the way for tonic water. Another anecdote begins in 1888 when the Imperial British Africa Company came to the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa and took over the administration of British East Africa until 1895. The roots of the Mombasa Club Gin lie in this period.

  • AGEING: It is made in an old distillery in London, just as it was over a hundred years ago, using traditional batch distillation. In order to achieve crystal clear purity, the gin is made in small batches using a grain alcohol that has been distilled four times. By means of maceration, the distillate is flavored with botanicals such as juniper, coriander, angelica root, citrus fruits, cinnamon cassia, cloves, caraway and anise.

  • AROMA: Very intense, it reaches the nose from afar. Its strong presence offers alternating notes of juniper and citrus, coupled with accents of cinnamon and herbs such as angelica root and coriander. In addition to a slight sharpness after a little pepper, the smell is characterized by a slight freshness of aniseed and very subtle hints of caraway.

  • RATING: On the palate, the gin is predominantly mild with strong aromas that offer a very complex interplay. The taste appears a little sweet at the beginning, followed by juniper, citrus fruits, angelica root, coriander, aniseed and clove. A bit of cinnamon is added towards the finish. The finish is medium to long, spicy and slightly bitter. Coriander, juniper and citrus fruits in particular remain behind.

  • SERVING RECOMMENDATION: Solo, with premium tonic, as a cocktail

Another anecdote begins in 1888 when the Imperial British Africa Company came to the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa and took over the administration of British East Africa until 1895. The roots of the Mombasa Club Gin lie in this period. Exclusive clubs were typical in the British Empire during the Colonial period. The legendary Mombasa Club, which still exists today, was the first "Private Social Club" in Africa - a popular meeting place for colonial life and an oasis of exquisite pleasure. The house gin was made exclusively for the members of this club in London and shipped to Kenya. However, he soon became so popular that a loyal following developed throughout the Empire. Today the colonial days are long gone and the Mombasa Club no longer only opens its doors to servants of the English crown, but in the Mombasa Club Gin the heart of Africa beats as strong as it once did.
