-
AROMA: Complex, rich variety of aromas from plums and blackberries, as well as nuances of raspberries and mint
-
RATING: Full-bodied and elegant on the palate, complemented by dark chocolate, liquorice and paprika, crowned by a long-lasting finish
-
SERVING RECOMMENDATION: with meat dishes with red meat, pan-fried beef, mature cheese and spicy cold cuts
Basically, the short history of Mitolo Winery is an incredible story from AZ. Or would you think it very likely that the southern hemisphere's largest potato farmer could produce one of Australia's top three wines within five years by hiring a previously unknown 23-year-old winemaker just because he's a friend? But that's exactly what happened. In 1999, Frank Mitolo had had enough of potatoes, sold part of his empire, invested the proceeds in vineyards in McLaren Vale and gave his friend Ben Glaetzer, who five years later became Australia's Young Winemaker of the Year at the age of 28, a chance to show what he could do. The first vintages already received very high ratings, with the GAM Shiraz standing out in particular. But that is by no means the only top product that Mitolo offers. Under the same label as the GAM Shiraz we offer a handpicked single site Shiraz and a fantastic single site Cabernet Sauvignon. Unfortunately, we cannot offer you large quantities of any of the Mitolo wines. But we can promise you that we will distribute the few bottles fairly!
