• STORY: Mitolo "GAM" Shiraz - Magic & Mitology! It's not normally our style to throw out superlatives lightly, but this Shiraz isn't without enthusiasm. This wine is a drop of the premier class. Named after the initials of Frank Mitolo's children, Gemma, Alexander and Marco, GAM has everything you could wish for in a top wine - most of it in abundance.

• AGEING: from vines over 40 years old, maceration for about 10 days at low temperatures, soft pressing, aging in French oak (70% new) for 18 months

• AROMA: In addition to dark, ripe fruits, aniseed, nutmeg and freshly ground pepper cavort in the nose.

• RATING: The palate reveals blueberries, blackberries and liquorice; velvety structure that fills the palate, while being elegant, enormously complex and very long on the finish. You can enjoy this wine today or keep it for up to ten years.

• SERVING RECOMMENDATION: Enjoy this wine without anything! Wonderful! But of course also an ideal accompaniment to grilled and hearty meat dishes.

Basically, the short history of Mitolo Winery is an incredible story from AZ. Or would you think it very likely that the southern hemisphere's largest potato farmer could produce one of Australia's top three wines within five years by hiring a previously unknown 23-year-old winemaker just because he's a friend? But that's exactly what happened. In 1999, Frank Mitolo had had enough of potatoes, sold part of his empire, invested the proceeds in vineyards in McLaren Vale and gave his friend Ben Glaetzer, who five years later became Australia's Young Winemaker of the Year at the age of 28, a chance to show what he could do. The first vintages already received very high ratings, with the GAM Shiraz standing out in particular. But that is by no means the only top product that Mitolo offers. Under the same label as the GAM Shiraz we offer a handpicked single site Shiraz and a fantastic single site Cabernet Sauvignon. Unfortunately, we cannot offer you large quantities of any of the Mitolo wines. But we can promise you that we will distribute the few bottles fairly!
