STORY: The Metzger winery, with its 18 hectares of vineyards in Grünstadt on the Weinstrasse in the Palatinate, is one of the larger family-run wineries. It currently has an annual production of 150,000 to 160,000 bottles. This is exactly what happened with the butcher "Prachtstück" Cuvée Weiss. Paired with Riesling, Bacchus and Scheurebe are two distinctly hearty aromatic varietals that impart a floral abundance of fruity notes to a wine.
-
AGEING: The Pinot Noir is cold macerated for eight days. This is followed by mash fermentation until it is finally allowed to mature in barriques for 18 months.
-
AROMA: delicate apple notes, fragrant notes of melon and sweet cherries
-
RATING: medium body, fine and not overloaded aromas, delicate pink reflections
-
SERVING RECOMMENDATION: Wine for an uncomplicated get-together, grilled food, light starters, Vitello Tonato, Maultaschen
The craft of Uli Metzger from the Palatinate is not just the cultivation of pure grape varieties and the design of harmonious cuvées. He also presses the red wine grapes into a wonderful, elegant white wine with character. The Metzger winery, with its 18 hectares of vineyards in Grünstadt on the Weinstrasse in the Palatinate, is one of the larger family-run wineries. It currently has an annual production of 150,000 to 160,000 bottles. The Metzger Prachtstück Blanc de Noirs, QbA, dry is a dry white wine made from red wine grapes, Pinot Noir. Blanc de Noirs means nothing more than "white from blacks". How can something like this work? The juice of most grapes is light-colored, regardless of the color of the skin, since most of the grape's pigments are in the skin. If the juice is separated from the skins before fermentation, a pale wine is obtained. The wine only turns red when these pigments are dissolved from the skin. This happens during fermentation through the alcohol, but also through the grape juice and the sugar it contains. It is therefore particularly important for white wine made from red wine grapes to bring the harvest healthy, i.e. undamaged, to processing in order to then press it as quickly as possible so that the grape skins and juice are separated. In terms of taste, this wine is one of the Burgundy wines. It is not quite as juicy, spicy as a Pinot Gris, shows on the one hand a delicate interplay of melon and cherry aromas and adds another fruity but also tart note through apple nuances. All in all, an unobtrusive, fruity wine in a soft pink shimmering robe.
