STORY: For a long time, South Africa's winegrowers were primarily concerned with producing what they called "easy drinking wines". Only the global success of a few famous estates, who laboriously allowed their best wines to mature for months in small "barriques" imported from France, showed the great potential of the wines from preferred locations when they are developed as "reserves".
-
VINIFICATION: After the selective harvest, the grapes are gently pressed and temperature-controlled fermentation. The wine matures for 12 months in American oak barriques.
AROMA: Opulent, dry, full-bodied and concentrated red wine with ripe fruit aromas and enticing chocolate and caramel notes as well as a hint of cinnamon.
-
EVALUATION: Firm fruit on the palate
SERVING RECOMMENDATION: With wild fowl, roasts and grilled meats as well as with cheese.
For a long time, South Africa's winemakers were primarily concerned with producing what they called "easy drinking wines". Only the global success of a few famous estates, who laboriously allowed their best wines to mature for months in small "barriques" imported from France, showed the great potential of the wines from preferred locations when they are developed as "reserves". So we asked ourselves whether such wines can really only be found in the cellars of well-known estates and at correspondingly high prices. When we met our winemaker partner Tertius Boshoff (Stellenrust) for an exchange of ideas, we told him that we saw significant sales opportunities for an affordable reserve wine from the Cape on the German market. And he promised us to work on a concept. A good 18 months later, a bottle arrived with the succinct handwritten label “The Reserve you wanted. Yours Tertius". We tried and were thrilled. Boshoff had given us a fabulous quality sample. That was out of the question. But how expensive would it be? It turned out: the price was more than convincing. And your response to this drop as well - exactly the wine that many discerning wine drinkers in Germany have been looking for for a long time.
