Viticulture has played an important role in Herxheim for centuries. The origin can be traced back to a fortified, Frankish noble court, of whose gates only the northern one has been preserved. As the "Pfaffenhoftor" it became the landmark and logo of the winegrowers' cooperative. Courageous winegrowers founded the cooperative in 1937 out of economic hardship, which has since grown considerably and has become well established through its quality-oriented viticulture. Today around 50 active member families cultivate around 190 hectares of vineyards. This vineyard area is in the districts of Herxheim, Dackenheim, Freinsheim and Kallstadt. The individual layers Herxheimer Honigsack, Herxheimer Kirchenstück and Himmelreich represent the best of the winegrowers' cooperative. According to the philosophy of the winegrowers' cooperative, tradition and progress in winemaking guarantee varietal, fresh wines and sparkling wines with clear, unmistakable fruit that invite uncomplicated enjoyment. Consistent quality policy is the top priority. With the expansion of the wine press building in 2002, the course for top quality was set early on.
