  • STORY: For four generations now, the Vigouroux family has been running their Chateau de Haute-Serre winery in what is probably one of the oldest wine-growing regions in Europe. There is evidence that wine has been grown in Cahors for at least 2000 years.

  • AGEING: After selective hand-picking, cold maceration and aging in 400-liter oak barrels for 8 months.

  • AROMA: powerful straw yellow, in the nose with pleasant floral, subtle mineral, tropical but also spicy notes.

  • EVALUATION: On the palate it distinguishes itself from other wines with its round, balanced but also fresh body. A nice juiciness with a creamy texture and fruity flavors of mango and pineapple. A complex, top-class Chardonnay with a long-lasting finish.

  • SERVING RECOMMENDATION: with mature cheese, salt-crusted salmon, grilled sea bass, sun-dried tomatoes and truffled omelet.

Something is happening in Cahors. The legendary wine region, which was mentioned in the same breath as Pauillac or Margaux in the 19th century, has been experiencing a remarkable renaissance in recent years. Georges Vigouroux played a major part in this. After the phylloxera plague at the end of the 19th century had reduced the stock of Malbec vines to a miserable 1% and the once coveted vineyards had been doomed to decay for over half a century, Georges Vigouroux used the zero hour in 1971 to recultivate the high plateau of the Chateau de Haut Serre with old Malbec clones. That brought him some head shaking, but the measure should prove to be a real highlight. The capricious grape variety, the special microclimate and the rare Kimmerridge. The Vigouroux family has been running their Chateau de Haute-Serre winery in what is probably one of the oldest wine-growing regions in Europe for four generations now. There is evidence that wine has been grown in Cahors for at least 2000 years. The area, halfway between the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pyrenees, benefits from an ideal combination of different natural features. Soil depth, vineyard height and distance to the Lot river. Even if the Chardonnay grape is not a typical grape from Cahors, this wine is a perfect combination of the local geographical conditions, the special skills of the grape variety itself and the skill of the winemaker Bertrand-Gabriel Vigouroux.
