Already in 1970 "El Coto de Rioja" harvests its first grapes in Rioja, but the first wines do not come on the market before 1975. The original winery is located in Oyón in the southeast of Rioja Alavesa and is still in operation today. Due to the high quality standards, constant innovation and further development, "El Coto de Rioja" managed to establish itself as the Spanish market leader in the categories Crianza and Reserva in 2000, a position the company can claim to this day. The winery facilities have been regularly modernized and expanded over the years: El Coto now has 12 buildings, each of which is designed for the processing of a specific type of wine. With over 730 hectares of its own vineyards, El Coto is an important wine-growing company in the DOC Rioja.
