The small community of Blanquefort, 10 km northeast of Bordeaux, is the cradle of some remarkable red Haut-Médoc vines. The special soil structure with many mineral variants produces extremely lively wines that are easy to drink even when young, but also have the storage potential of more than 10 years. This is also the case with this Cru Bourgeois from Château Saint Ahon, which has been owned by Nicolas and Françoise de Courcel since 1985. For the Château Saint Ahon, the family combines Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot after the grapes have been manually sorted out twice on vibrating tables. This care is rewarded with a dense ruby red colour, animating scents of wild berries and nuances of chocolate and wood, complemented by fine herbal aromas, beautiful fullness and juiciness on the palate, which leads to a spicy finish with perfectly integrated, gentle tannins.
