Today, Casa Ferreirinha is one of the absolute top producers in the Douro Valley. The first dry red wine of the Douro Valley was produced by this house. Ferreirinha means 'little Ferreira' and refers to the great-granddaughter of the company's founder, who tirelessly brought the Port Wine House Ferreira to the top. The Douro Valley is considered one of the oldest legally defined wine-growing regions in the world. The borders were already defined in 1756. For more than two centuries, only port wine was produced, table wines (in the sense of non-fortified wines) were only produced on a larger scale from 1979. While it used to be the case that the best grapes were always used for port wine, some estates now give priority to red table wine.
