  • STORY: The silhouette of a woman adorns the Boekenhoutskloof logo. She is the guardian of Boekenhoutskloof. In her hands she carries the dove of peace and hope.

  • VINIFICATION: After the harvest, the grapes are immediately selected and gently pressed. The wines mature separately in wooden barrels of different sizes and, after assemblage, mature in wooden barrels for a further 12 months. Finally, the wine is subjected to a light protein fining and filtration.

  • AROMA: Aromas of blackberry, violet, caramel, liquorice, eucalyptus and chocolate with mineral notes.

  • EVALUATION: This South African red wine is almost ink black in the glass. Very powerful on the palate with good structure and exquisite tannin, The Chocolate Block inspires with a seemingly endless aftertaste that offers fine spicy aromas and especially cocoa notes.

  • SERVING RECOMMENDATION: Goes well with hearty dishes.

Boekenhoutskloof, "Valley of the Beechwood", was founded in 1776 by French Huguenots. The property is one of the oldest estates in the picturesque Franschhoek region. Not only is the valley shaped by French culture, the wines from Boekenhoutskloof are also Francophile. Chief Winemaker Marc Kent flies to France regularly to gather new impressions and experiences. This is how he managed to make Boekenhoutskloof an icon. In 1997 Bo ekenhoutskloof has been fully restored and the vineyards replanted with Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Semillon and Viognier It is not surprising that John Platter named Boekenhoutskloof 'Winery of the Year 2012'.The exceptional wines, without exception, garner rave reviews and sell out quickly.
