STORY: The Rebspiegel of the Palatinate includes over 60 grape varieties. Most winemakers focus on traditional grapes such as Riesling, Dornfelder or the Burgundy varieties. Andreas Diehl proves that this does not have to be a golden rule: "Due to its almost Mediterranean climate, the Palatinate offers ideal conditions for the cultivation of sun-drenched grape varieties such as Chardonnay or Syrah."

The vine index of the Palatinate includes over 60 grape varieties. Most winemakers focus on traditional grapes such as Riesling, Dornfelder or the Burgundy varieties. Andreas Diehl proves that this doesn't have to be a golden rule: "Due to its almost Mediterranean climate, the Palatinate offers ideal conditions for the cultivation of sun-loving grape varieties such as Chardonnay or Syrah. It is important to make optimal use of this. Up until 20 years ago, no one would have believed that international red grape varieties in particular could achieve a high level here.” But they can indeed, as we found out at the latest after tasting Andreas Diehl’s barrique-aged Syrah or Cabernet Sauvignon. We were simply amazed. Another chapter in the success story of the Diehl couple.
