Red wine was already considered an important drink and even a remedy in ancient times. Hippocrates prescribed it for cardiovascular disorders. Red wine is made from the so-called blue grapes. Its skin contains coloring components, tannins and other aromatic substances that are released from the mash during fermentation. This largely determines the character of a red wine.

Grapes for red wine are grown in many countries. The right climate is crucial here. The grape varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir are known worldwide for excellent red wines.
